Preview of the 2025 Chevy Tahoe and Suburban: Enhanced technology elevates the already impressive interior

Advantages: Versatile; advanced magnetic and air suspension; cutting-edge user-friendly technology; excellent Duramax diesel option

Disadvantages: Base engine less efficient and powerful compared to competitors; seats are not very comfortable

While competitors may excel in certain aspects, the 2025 Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban have established themselves as the most comprehensive full-size SUVs. The vehicles boast striking aesthetics, luxurious interiors enhanced by top-notch technology upgrades for 2025, and provide ample space and strong towing capabilities. The driving experience is expected to be even more enjoyable and effortless with ride and handling improvements for 2025 – especially with the availability of magnetic and air suspension options on more trim levels. The Duramax diesel engine, known for its quiet operation, has been upgraded to offer more power and torque, promising significant fuel savings. The exterior designs have also been refreshed for 2025, maintaining the option to choose from their GMC Yukon counterparts if the Chevrolet models don’t quite meet your preferences.

It’s essential to consider whether the additional towing capacity and spacious cargo area of a full-size SUV like the Tahoe and Suburban are necessary. Large crossovers such as the Kia Telluride or Chevrolet’s all-new Traverse offer similar interior space, but with lower fuel costs, improved handling and maneuverability, and more budget-friendly price tags.

We have not had the opportunity to test drive or experience the 2025 Tahoe and Suburban yet. Therefore, we cannot confirm how much the driving experience has been enhanced, if at all. However, we have already tested and appreciated the significant updates to interior features in the Chevrolet Blazer EV. The infotainment system is exceptional, the digital instruments are vibrant, and the electronic column shifter is a notable improvement over the previous Tahoe/Suburban’s push-pull button shifter. While the Tahoe and Suburban were already impressive vehicles, opting for a 2024 model instead of waiting for a 2025 may not cause you to miss out significantly. Nonetheless, the 2025 models appear to offer notable improvements.

What’s new for 2025?

How are the Tahoe/Suburban interiors and in-car technology?

The revised 2025 Tahoe and Suburban are anticipated to maintain the high build quality standards established by the original design. The top-tier High Country trim appears just as luxurious as the 2024 Suburban, now featuring real wood accents. While the Tahoe/Suburban retains a plethora of vehicle control buttons on the left side of the wheel, the center console buttons have been minimized. Physical climate controls have been streamlined, with some functions now accessible on the touchscreen. The 17.7-inch screen, a significant upgrade from the previous 10.2-inch display, offers a user-friendly interface with customizable quick-access menu icons. The new digital instrument panel is expected to be clear and vibrant.

How spacious are the Tahoe and Suburban?

The 2025 models retain the impressive space and comfort introduced by the independent rear suspension in the 2021 redesign. The fold-flat third row is now genuinely accommodating for adults, teens, and big kids, offering remarkable roominess and comfort. The Tahoe and Suburban are slightly smaller than their Ford and Jeep counterparts, but the difference is negligible given the vast interior space they provide. The Tahoe boasts 25.5 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row, while the Suburban expands to 41.5 cubic feet, making it an excellent choice if you frequently transport three rows of passengers and their belongings.

What are the fuel economy and performance specifications of the Tahoe and Suburban?

The 2025 Tahoe and Suburban offer three engine options. The base engine is a 5.3-liter V8 generating 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque, mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission with the choice of rear-wheel or four-wheel drive. Fuel economy estimates are not yet available, but are expected to be similar to the 2024 models at around 16 or 17 mpg combined.

Available on select trims is a 6.2-liter V8 producing 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque, also paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. The diesel 3.0-liter inline-six engine, a unique offering in its class, delivers 305 horsepower and 495 pound-feet of torque, coupled with a 10-speed automatic. The diesel engine is expected to provide exceptional fuel efficiency, likely achieving between 22-24 mpg combined.

Towing capacities range from 7,500 to 8,000 pounds depending on the model and drivetrain. The diesel engine is an optimal choice for towing, offering competitive capabilities. A tow package further enhances towing capacity across all engines.

How is the driving experience of the Tahoe and Suburban?

The driving dynamics of the 2025 Tahoe and Suburban have been enhanced with updates to the independent rear suspension. The vehicles are expected to offer a nimble driving experience despite their large size. The availability of four suspension options – fixed steel spring and shock, air suspension, steel spring with magnetic dampers, and air suspension with magnetic dampers – provides a variety of driving characteristics. The magnetic dampers, highly recommended for their smooth ride and controlled handling, remain unchanged for 2025. The steering is precise, complementing the vehicle’s refined ride quality.

While the Tahoe and Suburban deliver adequate acceleration with the 5.3-liter V8, the 6.2-liter V8 offers a more spirited performance. However, the Duramax diesel engine is considered the superior choice, providing increased power and torque for 2025. Known for its quiet operation, the diesel engine offers a compelling driving experience, surpassing the 6.2-liter V8 in torque delivery. Parking these large vehicles can be challenging, but their impressive driving dynamics overshadow this inconvenience.
