Nvidia’s CEO acknowledges that Tesla is leading the way in self-driving technology

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang is confident that Tesla’s autonomous driving system, powered by Nvidia chips, is currently the most advanced on the market.

According to an exclusive interview with Yahoo Finance, Huang stated, “Tesla is far ahead in self-driving cars.”

Huang further praised Tesla’s latest full self-driving version 12 as revolutionary, highlighting its end-to-end generative model that learns from surround videos to predict driving paths.

Tesla’s FSD version 12, currently in beta, has accumulated over 1.3 billion miles since its launch in March 2021, and is available for $99 per month or a one-time fee of $8,000.

Despite its advancements, FSD remains a Level 2 autonomous system, necessitating supervision and facing scrutiny from recalls and government inquiries.

Nvidia, which reported $329 million in automotive revenue in the first quarter, expects the automotive sector to become a significant business opportunity.

Huang anticipates a future where all vehicles will possess autonomous features, necessitating substantial computing power, such as the one utilized by Tesla’s FSD system.

In collaboration with Tesla, Nvidia assisted in expanding the FSD training AI cluster to include 35,000 Nvidia Hopper H100 GPUs to process extensive video data.

Aside from Tesla, Nvidia’s automotive clients include major brands like Mercedes, Jaguar Land Rover, Volvo, Chinese EV companies BYD (BYD), and NIO (NIO).

Analysts at JPMorgan have raised Nvidia’s price target to $1,150, projecting substantial growth in the automotive sector over the next few years.

In conclusion, Nvidia’s partnership with Tesla in developing the full self-driving system showcases significant advancements in autonomous driving technology. As the automotive industry continues to evolve, the demand for cutting-edge solutions like FSD powered by Nvidia’s chips is expected to grow exponentially.
