Lady Gaga
’s highly anticipated Chromatica Ball concert film premieres on Max tomorrow, and the pop sensation hosted a special fan screening of the movie in Los Angeles last night — I suppose my invitation got misplaced. In classic Gaga style, she donned an extravagant outfit on the red carpet, this time with a unique Jalopnik twist: Her ensemble was crafted using a Mercedes front bumper.

Specifically, it’s the front bumper from a 2014-2016 E-Class coupe or convertible, the facelift of the W212, and more precisely one that lacks the AMG Line bodykit. The bumper has clearly been altered, with additional holes cut out to slip your arms through, but it unmistakably belongs to that E-Class.

How was my brain able to deduce that within seconds? It’s essentially mush filled with nothing else but car knowledge and Gaga trivia, so I’m pleased that this intersection of my passions is actually advantageous to my life and career in a significant manner. In social media posts showcasing the ensemble, Gaga mentioned that she was asked on the red carpet what kind of car part it was and her response was “I don’t know, I’m not a mechanic,” so I’m delighted to have unraveled this puzzle for her.

The attire was designed by Berlin-based fashion house SELVA, headed by Argentinian designer Selva Huygens. Huygens refers to his latest collection as the “Brutalist Functional Art Movement,” which incorporates various discarded materials and repurposed items, including numerous other car parts. One design features a similar bodice made with a Renault Twingo front bumper, while another utilizes an entire dashboard and center console mold.

Gaga is a noted E-Class owner, having previously owned an E350 from the same W212 generation used for this ensemble, albeit a sedan. She also possesses what must be the most exquisite W123 sedan in New York City, which you can observe below. Other vehicles that have been (or are presently) Gaga’s collection include a first-generation Ford F-150 Lightning, an original Ford Bronco, a suicide-door ‘60s Lincoln Continental on airbags, a Chevy Nova SS and a cool El Camino, multiple Rolls-Royce Phantoms and a Corniche II, as well as supercars like an Audi R8 and a Lamborghini Huracan. Gaga once possessed an ‘80s Alfa Romeo Spider, but parted ways with it because it was such a maintenance headache. She’s also been spotted driving a Cybertruck, but that belongs to her partner so I’ll let it slide.
