While other automakers have been relaxing EV plans, Kia is amplifying its efforts with vehicles like the updated the EV6, the Niro EV, the EV9 and now the automaker the compact yet lively EV3. This is a model that will be available in the U.S.

If the specifications unveiled by Kia are accurate and the pricing is competitive, Kia could have a winner on its hands. Kia states that the EV3 will come in two variants: a standard range version with a 58.3 kWh battery, and a long range version with an 81.4 kWh battery, providing a range of 372 miles on the WLTP cycle. Rapid charging is expected to replenish the battery from 10 – 80 percent in just 10 minutes. Moreover, the pricing is enticing; Kia plans to offer the EV3 in the $30,000-$50,000 range.

Aesthetically, the EV3 resembles a compact EV9, both in the front and rear designs. However, the EV3 lacks the digital-style front facia seen on the EV9. With a height of 5.1 feet and a length of 14.5 feet, the EV3 is nearly identical in size to the Niro EV. Each EV3 trim will feature 19-inch wheels, potentially giving it a taller appearance.

Kia is also offering a wide range of exterior color options, with nine choices available, including two specifically designed for the EV3: Aventurine Green and Terracotta. The EV3 GT-Line, typically known for its sporty look, will feature a more “rugged and adventurous appearance” as described by Kia.

The interior design of the EV3 is reminiscent of the EV9, but in a smaller scale. The focal point is the dual 12.3-inch displays for the driver and infotainment system. Kia mentions that many functions can also be controlled through the steering wheel if the driver prefers not to use the screens for certain tasks.

The EV3 can accommodate five occupants and includes features like a relaxation mode for the seats that allows them to recline, a sliding table for passengers to use when parked, and a dual-level center console for storage. The interior color choices and materials draw inspiration from earth elements, with gray and blue color options available.

For those eager to pre-order the EV3, patience will be necessary. The EV3 will first become available in Korea in June before launching in Europe later this year. U.S. customers will have to wait until 2026 to get their hands on the EV3, which may be frustrating considering the current state of the EV market. While the market has slowed down, there is still a demand for more affordable electric vehicles. Hopefully, Kia will consider advancing the U.S. release date to meet this need.
