Hyundai Ioniq 5 N Time Attack Duo Dominates Pikes Peak Challenge

Hyundai is showcasing its modded Ioniq 5 racers at the Nurburgring 24-hour race, ahead of their participation in the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb at the end of June. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N TA Spec EV, a purpose-built racer, aims to set a new record in the Electric Modified SUV/Crossover class at Pikes Peak. With a total output of 677 horsepower, derived from the eN1 Cup Car base, these racers are set to make a mark at the event.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N TA Spec EV features widebody panels, a front spoiler, and a rear wing that enhance its performance and downforce. Equipped with a five-way adjustable suspension, 18-inch forged wheels, and Yokohama Advan 005 slicks, this racer promises optimal grip on the track. The braking system, with six-piston brakes in the front and four-piston brakes in the rear, ensures adequate stopping power.

In preparation for Pikes Peak, Hyundai has amped up the volume of its N Active Sound+ system to simulate engine noise at up to 120 decibels, instead of using the typical alarm siren required for EVs at the event.

The Ioniq 5 N TA Spec EV will be joined by two production versions of the Ioniq 5N, also aiming to break records. These production cars have been modified for safety, including features like a roll cage, fire suppression system, and racing seat with a harness. Powering these cars is a dual-motor powertrain delivering a maximum of 641 horsepower through Yokohama Advan tires.

The lineup of drivers for the event includes experienced racers such as Robin Shute, Dani Sordo, Paul Dallenbach, and Ron Zaras. Testing for the event will begin on June 18, giving fans a first look at these impressive machines in action.
