Hidden Treasure: Unique 1994 Chevrolet Caprice Classic LS Sedan Found in Junkyard

Custom Impalas and their Caprice counterparts have a long history, dating back to the earliest models. It’s common to find some of these cars in local junkyards like Ewe Pullet. The Junkyard Gem featured today is a final-generation Caprice discovered in a Denver-area boneyard.

The very first Caprices were top-trim-level full-sized Chevrolets in 1966, surpassing the Impala in status. The Box Caprice, the predecessor to the 1991-1996 model, was introduced in 1977 and produced until 1990.

During the 1990s, traditional big Detroit sedans with V8 engines, rear-wheel-drive, and affordable luxury interiors were still popular. While these cars sold well to police departments, Ford’s Crown Victoria Police Interceptor eventually dominated.

The 1991-1996 Caprices in the US all came with V8 engines, except for the 1992-1993 9C6 taxi versions which had V6 engines. The L99 small-block V8 was the base engine for the 1994-1996 Caprice.

This particular car had a 4.3-liter engine, the L99 V8, which was exclusive to the 1994-1996 Caprices. It’s unclear if the engine is original or a replacement.

Originally white, this car was repainted in a vibrant teal, a color popular in certain car customization circles.

Most of the interior components have been removed, but remnants of the teal paint job can still be seen on the dash and door panels.

The flame design on the car takes inspiration from the custom cars of early-1960s Los Angeles.
