Ricciardo aims to secure another season in F1

Daniel Ricciardo expresses his desire to secure his spot in Formula One with Red Bull-owned RB next season, citing his eighth place finish in Canada as a boost.

The Italy-based team has already announced Japan’s Yuki Tsunoda for the 2025 season, leaving the second seat undecided, with New Zealand reserve driver Liam Lawson also being considered.

Ricciardo, aged 34, a winner of eight grand prix races, has been trailing Tsunoda in points over the nine races this season.

The recent race in Montreal marked Ricciardo’s first top 10 finish of the season, while Tsunoda has achieved five such finishes so far.

“I needed a result like that,” said Ricciardo, who returned to RB last season after his stint with McLaren in 2022. “Now that I’m back in that Red Bull family… I really don’t see myself anywhere else. So that’s where I’d love to stay and continue.”

“I obviously want to earn it. I don’t just want it to be like ‘Yeah, yeah. OK. Stay another year.’ I want to be here because I believe I still belong here and can deliver strong performances like I did last week.”

Ricciardo faced criticism from retired 1997 world champion Jacques Villeneuve before his fifth place qualifying in Canada. Villeneuve questioned Ricciardo’s presence in F1, stating, “If you can’t cut it, go home. There’ll be someone else to take your place.”
