Polestar UK and Ireland names Matt Galvin as new leader

Polestar has appointed Matt Galvin as the new Managing Director for the UK and Ireland, starting on July 1, 2024. With 20 years of experience in the automotive industry, Galvin has held senior positions at Mercedes-Benz UK, Volvo UK, Nio UK, and recently served in a global sales role at Polestar.

Galvin’s appointment comes after Jonathan Goodman announced his retirement following seven years in senior management roles with the EV brand.

“I am thrilled to take on the role of Managing Director of Polestar UK and Ireland during this pivotal time for the brand,” Galvin said. “With plans to expand from a single-car line-up to a three-car brand and ambitious growth strategies for the next few years, it is an incredibly exciting time to step into this role. I am looking forward to collaborating with the existing Polestar UK and Ireland teams, and we wish Jonathan a fulfilling retirement.”

Kristian Elvefors, Head of Commercial, expressed his excitement about Galvin’s appointment, stating, “The UK is a crucial market for Polestar, and we are eager to see the brand flourish as we transition from a one to a three-car company this year.”

Reflecting on his retirement, Jonathan Goodman remarked, “It has been an honor to contribute to shaping the future of Polestar during its formative years, witnessing significant growth in both sales and brand recognition. We have accomplished a great deal over the past seven years, and I extend my gratitude to the exceptional team for their collaboration and outstanding work ethic over the years.”

Polestar is under the ownership of Geely Holding Group, a company primarily engaged in the automotive industry and privately owned by Chinese entrepreneur Li Shufu.
