Official recall issued for Toyota Grand Highlander and Lexus TX due to side curtain airbag safety concern

Upon hearing news of an upcoming recall of the 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander and Lexus TX series of SUVs, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has made available the official documentation concerning the issue. Unfortunately, Toyota has stated that “the remedy is currently under development,” providing limited additional information.

It has been disclosed that a total of 145,254 vehicles in the U.S. will be affected by this recall. Vehicles sold in other regions could also be impacted by the same problem. According to NHTSA documents, “The driver’s side curtain air bag may not deploy correctly and may partially deploy outside of an open window.”

Currently, only the Grand Highlander and TX models are part of the recall. Toyota has assured that other Toyota and Lexus vehicles do not share the same curtain shield airbag system and do not have similar surrounding components during airbag deployment. Toyota has verified that the Toyota Highlander, a different model with a distinct driver’s side curtain shield airbag design and surrounding structures, is not affected by the issue described in the report.

Q: Which models are included in the recall?

A: The 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander and Lexus TX are currently the only models included in the recall.

In conclusion, the 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander and Lexus TX series of SUVs are facing a recall due to potential issues with the driver’s side curtain airbag deployment. Owners of these vehicles should stay informed about any updates from Toyota regarding the recall and the remedy being developed.
