Mercedes F1 chief dismisses accusations of team sabotage against Hamilton as baseless “cyber bullying”

MONTMELÓ, Spain — Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff revealed that police are currently investigating an email that was sent to motorsport journalists and Formula 1 teams. The email claimed that Mercedes is deliberately undermining Lewis Hamilton’s performances following his decision to depart for Ferrari.

During the Spanish Grand Prix on Friday, Wolff mentioned that the team has had the police look into the matter.

The email accuses Mercedes of sabotaging Hamilton by compromising his car, tire strategy, and mental well-being. Wolff dismissed these claims as baseless “conspiracy theories.”

Wolff stated, “We are investigating the IP address and the phone associated with the email because such online abuse must be stopped. Lewis has been a part of the team for 12 years, and we share a friendship and trust. We aim to end this partnership on a positive note and win the constructors’ world championship. To those spreading these absurd allegations, seek help.”

Earlier this year, Hamilton surprised the F1 community by announcing his move to Ferrari in 2025, signaling the end of his successful partnership with Mercedes that led to multiple world championships.

Hamilton has been slightly trailing behind teammate George Russell this season, with Russell currently in seventh place in the drivers’ standings, ahead of Hamilton in eighth. Russell has also outperformed Hamilton in qualifying sessions in eight out of nine races so far.
