Mazda CX-50 Hybrid Makes its Debut in 2025, Achieving 38 mpg with Standard AWD

Mazda unveiled an updated CX-50 for the 2025 model year on Tuesday, introducing a hybrid powertrain option for one of its compact crossovers for the first time since the Tribute left the lineup. The new 2025 Mazda CX-50 Hybrid will be available in three trims: Preferred, Premium, and Premium Plus. The entry-level “Select” trim will continue to use the standard 2.5-liter base engine. The Hybrid model, positioned in the middle of the lineup, is expected to offer 38 mpg combined fuel efficiency. While specific powertrain details were not provided, it is likely to be on par with the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid, which shares a similar system.

The turbocharged variants remain the top-tier options, coming in Premium and Premium Plus trims, with the Meridian Edition replacing the Preferred trim. The Meridian Edition is recommended for those needing to tow heavier loads, as it can handle up to 3,500 pounds. It boasts 227 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque on regular gasoline, with the option to increase to 256 horsepower and 320 lb-ft with premium 93-octane fuel.

Aside from minor interior and exterior updates, the highlight for 2025 is the introduction of the hybrid system. All CX-50 models now include Alexa Built-in for enhanced voice command functionality. Additionally, new features such as a rear seat reminder, improved automatic emergency braking, and collision mitigation have been added to the standard “i-Activesense” suite.

While full specifications are not yet available, pricing details have been released for each trim level including destination charges:

  • CX-50 2.5 S Select $31,720
