First Drive Review: Leading the Way – 2025 Honda Civic Hybrid

The Honda Civic may be one of the most common cars on roads throughout the United States. Seeing them so frequently could lead one to view the compact car as simply a means to an end, a vehicle to transport you from one place to another with minimal hassle. However, the Civic is much more than just a commuter car. It has consistently been one of the top-selling cars in America, and the updated 2025 Honda Civic, especially in the hybrid variant we tested, might be the best version yet.

The biggest change for the 2025 Civic’s mid-cycle refresh is the introduction of a 2.0-liter four-cylinder hybrid powertrain producing 200 horsepower. This hybrid powertrain replaces the outgoing 180-hp, 1.5-liter turbocharged engine. While we will miss the turbo engine’s performance, we believe most drivers will be satisfied with the 200-horsepower hybrid. The electric motor and gearless eCVT transmission deliver a torquey 232 pound-feet from 0 through 2,000 rpm, providing a smooth acceleration experience across different driving conditions.

The Civic Hybrid’s performance is complemented by its efficiency, with an expected fuel economy rating of 50 miles per gallon in the city, 47 on the highway, and 49 combined. Compared to its competitor, the Toyota Corolla Hybrid, the Civic Hybrid offers a sportier driving experience while still maintaining excellent efficiency.

The 2025 Civic Hybrid features various driving modes, including Econ, Normal, and Sport, each tailored for different driving preferences. The regenerative braking system offers four levels of regen, providing drivers with control over braking intensity.

On the exterior, the 2025 Civic boasts restyled elements such as the grille, front fascia, taillights, and headlight reflectors. The interior of the Civic Hybrid Sport Touring model is equipped with a new 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system powered by Google Built-In, offering seamless access to apps and navigation.

Honda has enhanced the safety features of the 2025 Civic with the standard Honda Sensing package, which includes advanced safety technologies like Collision Mitigation, Adaptive Cruise Control, and Lane Keeping Assist.

Overall, the new Civic Hybrid offers a blend of performance, efficiency, technology, and safety features that make it a compelling option in the compact car segment. With its attractive design, spacious interior, and user-friendly infotainment system, the Civic Hybrid is likely to appeal to a wide range of buyers.
